My First Contribution: Localizing a WordPress Plugin for Costa Rica
For my first WPC contribution I joined the Polyglots team, whose mission is to make WordPress and its plugins available in every language. I chose to work on the Automation Web Platform plugin — a tool that sends WooCommerce order and account notifications — and translate it into Costa Rican Spanish (es_CR).
Rather than settling for the generic Spanish locale, I focused on es_CR so the wording matches how people actually speak and write here. Over the project I translated and submitted 106 strings, following a consistent set of terminology rules to keep the notifications clear and natural for local users.
This contribution qualifies because it directly advances the Polyglots goal of full language coverage: every accepted string makes the plugin more usable for Spanish-speaking store owners and customers in Costa Rica, and strengthens the WordPress ecosystem as a whole.
